Wedding Traditions and Superstitions, ExplainedAs you plan your wedding, there are so many things you'll be told you "have" to do, but the truth is, your big day is just that—yours. While we're firm believers that you definitely don't have to wear white, have bridesmaids, or cut a towering cake during the reception, wedothink it's worth at least considering some of the long-standing wedding traditions to determine if they're right for you. And along with traditions come superstitions, which you're bound to hear about throughout the planning process.

TraditionsWhen couples talk to me about their wishes for their wedding I always start off with the same piece of advice; you can design whatever kind of evening you like but it should feel like you. Your loved ones are expecting to attend YOUR wedding, so make it what they expect and what you are comfortable with. There are classic wedding traditions like bouquet toss or cutting of the cake, but meaningful traditions are about creating unity and gathering people together. They are personal, they are the handing down of information, beliefs, or customs from one generation to another. Traditions are what you make them, and now a days people are more comfortable picking and choosing the ones that are meaningful to them. Want to wear pink instead of white, why not? Hate wedding cakes, have ice cream! Are you a sucker for a good garter toss, go for it.Are you more private for special moments? Have a private ceremony before guests arrive. Anniversary dances, the electric slide, Chinese food, all are possibilities. There are no rules! Except for my rule, it’s your party and you can do what you want to.

When we were planning our wedding many years ago, the best advice we received was to make sure there were 3 things at your wedding that are unique and unusual so people will remember it. Years later we have attended many weddings and we remember each one for 1-3 things that made the wedding stand out and memorable. Here are some waffly great ways to make your special day a reflection of your waffle love. #weddingplanning #weddingideas #weddingtrends #waffles #uniquewedding #bestadvice #smallbusiness #wedding

Ever pondered having your wedding ceremony smack dab in the middle of your reception? Sounds nutty, right? But why not? We're all for shaking up the old order of things. What if the vows get exchanged over dessert? Or during the canapés? You see, weddings aren't a one-size-fits-all affair. They're a reflection of your love, your story, your values. So, if swapping 'I do's' amidst the clinking of champagne glasses or the groovy beats of your favourite song feels more 'you', then I say, go for it! Don't let the supposed 'norms' dictate your day. Your wedding is an opportunity to embrace what truly matters to you. It's not about pleasing Aunt Meryl or keeping up with the Joneses. It's about two people committing to each other in the most authentic way possible. So, let's start asking the right questions: What do you love? What do you hate? What makes your heart sing? How can we make your day truly yours? Throw out that wedding rule book and let's get down to creating a ceremony that's intentionally you, even if it means saying 'I do' over a slice of wedding cake!

Intentionality in wedding planning is underrated. It's not just about ticking off a checklist. It's about asking 'Why?' Why this venue? Why these flowers? Why this tune? Make your choices matter. Your wedding isn't a to-do list, it's a story. Your story.

In the world of weddings, we so often get tangled up in the must-have traditions and the push towards extravagance. But let's flip the script, shall we? Why not consider a wedding at your own home? It's not just about saving on venue costs, it's about creating a space that is truly meaningful to you. It’s your turf, your rules. No need to worry about corkage fees or curfews. Your home, your haven, holds your shared memories, your laughter and your love. It's the very essence of intentional. And isn't that what a wedding should be? A celebration that is deeply personal, that reflects your shared values and commitment. So, before you sign up for a castle or a beachfront resort, consider if your own home might just be the perfect venue. After all, home is where the heart is. #homewedding
