The Downside of Making Your Own ElectricityAll this talk about clean energy is a bit overblown. This time of year I have to remember to fuel during the day and not when I go to bed. It is kind of like remembering to change your clock every spring - you mean I have to do it again!?Yesterday, because demand is low and output is high in the spring, the house battery was already filled by mid-day. And then I was forced to send all of this free energy into the grid (ugh!). I was basically running my neighbor's toaster or hot water heater or A/C pro bono. I was busy working and forgot to go and top-off the car battery instead. If I didn't have this ridiculous battery vehicle, I could have just run over to the nearest gas station and pumped in $50 worth of fuel in a jiffy. So before you go and think it is all sweet smelling roses, make sure you know the full story on these so called de-flationary trends.

John E Duke while there can be some inconveniences and change when owning an EV, the benefits overall far outweigh those inconveniences.Did your neighbour invite you over for some toast? (I hope that was a metaphor)

I don’t worry much like you do. I just let the system do its thing. I charge at night.

First world problems! 😉I also appreciate generating more power than my EV uses. More than the all electric house uses too with excess every year, even in West Virginia. Home energy storage will be installed this year.

Years ago I invented the Clean Energy Factor to describe electric power in markets with abundant wind and solar. The message associated with presenting this information to consumers is that clean energy costs less, which it does; you just need to sign up for a time of use rate or other program to realize the savings and enjoy using cleaner energy. There are all sorts of cool ways to use cleaner energy and as you do, it's going to drive our economy forward. It always bothered me that there were local variations created due to congestion and losses in the system that could potentially reduce the veracity of the statement "clean energy costs less." But now that problem is solved! I hope you enjoy charging your vehicle or running your clothes dryer this weekend when clean energy is flowing into your neighborhood. Please contact me to get your forecast. #cleanenergy #economy #markets

The next time you hear someone say EVs are powered by coal, remind them that’s still better than our existing combustion based transportation energy model.Combustion engines are incredibly wasteful. Coal only makes up 20% of US energy. The grid gets greener every year. Therefore, your EV gets greener every year. When someone claims this chart depends on battery size remind them to compare it to a similar size/model ICE vehicle. All things must be relative. Remove climate and public health benefits from the argument and we are still left with better technology. 😉#tesla #electricvehicles #energy #efficiency #cost
